Tough Love with Kerwin Your age is not an excuse

Let me tell it to you straight. For all of you people out there who are using age as excuse, listen up. Age has NOTHING to do with it. I don’t care if you’re 30, 50, or 80.

Don’t pull the ‘age’ card as a reason to stop starting.

Because here’s the thing, it’s not about age, it’s about action.

I’m sick of hearing bullshit excuses from people as to why they’re not achieving their goals, and age is a big one.

“Oh but Kerwin, I’m too old to start something new.”

Or, “Kerwin I don’t have the qualifications, I’ve missed the boat – that ship has sailed”.

You know what that is? That’s called the learning excuse.

“I just need to learn a little bit more before I apply.”

Are you kidding me?

I have no degrees or formal qualifications. The only thing I have is three brain injuries, a physical disability, dyslexia, ADHD and a wicked fucking personality – the only qualifications I’ve got are derived from experiences I’ve produced, which has come about as a result of the things I have thrown myself into.

I don’t care if you’re starting your business at 18 or 80 – just start. I don’t care if you’ve been to university or if you didn’t complete school – just start.

At 15 I couldn’t get a job because at that age I had no references, but I wanted a job so badly so you know what I did? I went and worked for three different businesses, for free!

And not only did I get a job and a reference, but I used that reference to then leverage myself into other paying opportunities.

But if I sat around saying, “I’m too young and no one is going to give me a job,” well who knows where I’d be.

The truth is, if you don’t do it now you’re probably never going to do it.

Enough with the excuses. Just start.
