Twitter is testing new formats for replies in a bid to improve engagement

  • Social Media Today has reported that Twitter is experimenting with reply formats to boost overall engagement on the platform
  • Twitter is trialing threaded replies, colour coding, ‘active’ green dot indicators, and visible timestamps amongst many others
  • This is just one announcement they’ve made, in hopes of increasing positive engagement on the platform

Snapchat announces its own version of Instagram’s ‘boomerang’

  • Snapchat has announced After you record the video, you can select which clip you want to ‘bounce’ by selecting the infinity loop on the right hand side

Instagram is rolling out new account transparency tools

  • Instagram has announced that they are implementing new transparency tools which will help users identify the authenticity of accounts with large followings with the new ‘about this account’ section
  • Within the ‘about this account’ section you will be able to see when the user first signed up to the Instagram, the country the account was created in, the ads the page is currently running, any user name changes from the past 12 months and accounts with shared followers

Facebook is testing links in stories

  • Social Media Today has reported that Facebook has started testing links in stories, trying to make stories more prevalent
  • Facebook commented “many people come to Facebook to share and have conversations about articles that interest them. So, we’re testing the ability to share links in Stories, just like you can on News Feed”

Facebook is testing a new tool to help boost news publishers reach

  • Digiday has reported that Facebook has been testing a new tool with a group of news publishers, including Buzzfeed to help improve their organic reach
  • The new tool will allow publishers to test four versions of their content, with different headlines, descriptions and images
  • From there the publisher can monitor the data to see which version is best performing

  • CNet has reported that Facebook is testing a things in common label to try and connect users who live in the same city, have similar things in common or work for the same company
  • For instance, when you are reading a public conversation, Facebook will start highlighting things that you have in common with other users that have commented on the post, but you are not friends with
