Instagram is proving to be the hottest platform at the moment. This week they are really stepping, we find out they are testing and rolling out new features with hashtags and tags on videos and options for eCommerce selling on the platform. Instagram is testing a new way to include hashtags in posts

  • Social Media Today reported that Instagram is testing a new way of including hashtags in a post without having to put them in the caption or comments
  • At this stage in the testing, there doesn’t appear to be a limit to the amount of hashtags that you can use (as opposed to the current limit of 30)

New ways to shop on Instagram

  • Instagram has announced two new features that help brands sell their products on their Instagram page
  • You can now tap on a product in stories to learn more about the item
  • Instagram also announced they’re rolling out a new ‘shopping’ section within the explore section. The section will allow users to browse products across brands you follow and brands that Instagram thinks you may like

Twitter continues to push live content discovery

  • Twitter will now highlight live streams at the top of your timeline
  • This means, when an account that you follow begins broadcasting, the live stream will appear at the top of your timeline

Instagram confirmed they’re now testing video tagging

  • Techcrunch announced that Instagram is now testing the option to tag friends in videos
  • They are supposedly testing a ‘people who are tagged in this video’ button for users to click, which will then redirect them to a list of users that are tagged
