This week in media news, things seem to be winding down for the Christmas break! Facebook releases new Facebook Messenger camera features and Instagram continues to up their music game.

New camera tools are available in Facebook Messenger

  • New tools include:
  • Boomerang mode, just like the feature on Instagram
  • Selfie mode, which blurs the background and puts your face into focus
  • AR sticker functions, which allow you to bring digital stickers into the real world

Twitter gives timeline control back to users

  • The new ‘sparkle’ button located on the top right of the screen will reveal options to switch the timeline to chronological or top tweets
  • The feature comes after much heated discussion within the Twitter community

Instagram adds even more new features to stories and live videos

  • You can now pick songs as answers to the questions feature on Instagram stories
  • You can also add video effects on top of music that are timed with the beat of the song
  • Users will also be able to overlay answer stickers in their lives, keeping the attention of viewers tuning in at different times
