How important is self-awareness when it comes to growth?

Extremely important.

But why is it so important?

I think self-awareness is critical in business to understand strengths and weaknesses because often times there are certain things that we are very good at, and there are some things that we just really suck at.

For me, I still look at a financial report and I still need to this day, someone to explain it to me.

But here’s the thing, I may not be strong in the area of reading a financial report, but guess what I do every single fortnight, and every single month?

I read my financials. I go through every line item. It’s not my strength but I don’t ignore it.

I’m totally driven to become as self-aware as humanly or spiritually possible in the business context, because what I know is the more I see in business, the more ideas I can generate and the more opportunities I can actually tap into because of what I’m able to scope.

Now, when it comes to relationships, who do you think is the number one relationship that you need to master with?

You. Know thyself.

Your on a plane right, and the captain comes over the microphone and says, “Ladies and gentlemen we’re cruising at 28,000 ft, in the event of emergency oxygen masks will fall out from the cabin above you. Please ensure that you affix your oxygen mask first before you help anyone around you, including your children”.

Same goes for the relationship with yourself. I must be solely responsible for my own mental health.

Who would agree that it’s fair to say that on some level you think you might have a little bit of baggage when it comes to your relationship with yourself? About who you think you are?

But how well do you know yourself?

What do you think you’re good at? What do you think you’re bad at?

In order for you to proceed to the highest level, my philosophy is, it all comes down to your relationship with yourself because who thinks it’s fair to say right now, if you could get out of your own way, life would radically transform?

If you could not only get out of your own way but if you can get out of your own way in a way that enabled you to just move forward automatically, who thinks their life would be radically different three months from now?

Work on that. Know thyself.
