Do you ever get so caught up in what you are doing that you forget to sometimes just be in the moment?
Pretty sure I lived a good portion of my life as an action man… Constantly going, rarely switching off, needing to be constantly busy in order to feel a measure of self-worth.
Pretty sure for a long while there I was unconscious to a deep rooted feeling that I wasn’t good enough.
And the only way I could even get close to feeling like a person who deserved success was to work my ass off.
For a good 10 years, I worked so hard I collapsed 5 times, was hospitalised twice, lost 3 businesses and a number of close personal relationships.
“Let me get this right Kerwin. You worked so hard 3 businesses failed?”
Yep, that is 100% true.
You see working hard is what most people will tell you is the key to becoming a huge success.
I believed that so deeply and trusted that belief so much is nearly killed me.
Now if you are waiting for me to tell you that you don’t have to work hard and that success is easy, you will be waiting a long time.
What I have learned is that it is about discipline, consistency and a laser-like focus on the things that matter. Not the things that don’t.
You see being BUSY won’t make you successful BUT being EFFECTIVE will almost guarantee it.
Personally, I was so caught up in doing things that I forgot to be present to the moments that were showing me what was genuinely important. The things that would make me effective.
I was so intoxicated by my “action man” lifestyle that I thought to slow down was for the elderly or retired folk.
Learning how (or should I say remembering how) to just “be” has transformed everything.
I used to work 6 and 7 days a week. Now I do 2 days in the office and 2 at home.
I used to work 15-18hrs days. Now I work no more than 4-6 hr days.
I used to have no time for relationships or family. Now I spend more time with my son and wife in a day than many do in a week.
I used to do EVERYTHING myself and feel helpless and anxious. Now I have a high-performance team that do almost everything and give me the freedom to be creative.
If you are open I want to show you how I made the shift and got to a place where I am able to be present to the moments that matter rather than blindly trying to get enough done to feel like I had a shot at becoming successful.
My 3 business failures taught me and proved something to me that has been top of mind ever since.
If hard work were the key to success then we would see a lot more Australian businesses being wildly successful.
To become truly successful at the highest level in your field, you must learn how to rise above the noise and seduction of busy work and become laser focused on the priorities that create raging success.
Business is easy, it is the discipline that most people struggle with.
The discipline to ASK for help when you need it.
The discipline to LEARN what to do.
The discipline to IMPLEMENT what works.
And the discipline to laser focus on the PRIORITIES that are of critical importance to growth.
There are 5 critical priorities that we as business owners must focus on with discipline if we want to become truly successful.
- Mindset (how you think and create meanings)
- Planning (how far you think ahead and prioritize what’s important)
- Marketing (how good you are at getting qualified leads and quality conversations and engagement)
- Sales (how ethically you move people to action who GENUINELY need and can afford what you have)
- Leadership (how well you inspire others to follow the mission and vision of your company)
Remember, business is a team sport and the greatest chance you have to grow is setting up and maximising the support around you.
