We all have a few social media accounts that we use to keep up with friends, post the occasional picture, and see what new memes have popped up.
But, social media has completely changed the world forever.
Not only can we LOL and “like”, but we can also market and advertise like never before.
If you’re not convinced why your brand should be on social media, then I’ve got 15 bloody good reasons why!
Five f**ing years! That’s such a huge portion of our lives spent looking at screens and scrolling through news feeds. This is where people’s attention is at, this is where the eyeballs and the viewers are. There’s no other media type we spend 5 years and 4 months consuming. Not TV, not magazines, we’re not standing outside looking at posters and billboards for 5 years and 4 months. It’s social media. So if your marketing strategy isn’t working, chances are you’re not using social media to your advantage, because the attention is there.
We used to sit in front of the telly for hours every evening, and watch prime time and get exposed to ads during the ad breaks. But that’s changing. Instead, people watch videos on social media for hours, and now Facebook is putting ads in between videos. That traditional TV audience is moving, so be conscious of that and jump in on the opportunity before the big guys’ price you out.
Smart brands are leaning towards utility marketing, and it’s paying off because customers actively want to see more of their content. I always tell my clients, show them your products and services, teach them something about your industry, inspire them, keep them updated on sales and special events. Not just some bullsh*t sales pitch, but give them content they wanna see! That’s how you grow and keep an audience.

I know, I know, a lot of businesses are intimidated by video. “I don’t know what content to produce, I don’t have a videographer, editor, etc…” But this figure really speaks for itself! Consumers are turning to social media for more information and to research products, so putting helpful videos up is one of the smartest moves you can make.
5. Social media users aged 55-64 are twice as likely to interact with branded content than younger audiences.
Don’t give me bullsh*t excuses like “social media won’t work for my business, it’s not a good fit for my industry, my clients are older”. There are people out there that want to see your content, and that will happily interact, which will boost your reach and exposure!
6. More videos are uploaded to YouTube every month than is uploaded to major broadcast networks in six months.
A lot of brands shy away from YouTube because they think it’s just not a good fit for them, or they simply don’t know what to film. But YouTube is where it’s at! It’s the second largest search engine next to Google, and people are constantly looking for How-to’s, tutorials, information, and inspiration. Imagine getting broadcast on a major network for free? It’d be a pretty good bargain right? Well if you want that same opportunity for reach and exposure, all you have to do is head to YouTube and click “upload”.
7. Consumers that land on your site through Pinterest are 10 times more likely to complete a purchase than visitors that come through other referrals.
Pinterest isn’t just for DIY and craft activities anymore, it’s full of great imagery, infographics, and it’s only expanding its business opportunities. Businesses can use Product Pins to link consumers back to their website, and clearly, it’s paying off as people are more likely to purchase. So don’t overlook Pinterest, it’s worth having and keeping updated,
That’s a whopping number of companies that now have leads, sales, and repeat customers just by maintaining a good social media presence! The ROI on social media is insane, businesses can generate so much interest for little to no cost if they’re just genuinely willing to build that relationship.
If you’re overlooking LinkedIn, you’re making a big mistake! LinkedIn isn’t just for job hunting and virtual resumes. It’s a great opportunity for businesses to keep audiences updated on new products, campaigns, initiatives, and events. Plus, it’s a great opportunity for your employees to interact with the company and share the great work they’re doing, and let their network know what they’re up to in their careers.
Now here’s one we never saw coming…people prefer Facebook to porn these days? It just goes to show how many users and how many hours are spent browsing social media.
Every single day! That’s almost ? of the Earth’s population logging into the same site each day. Imagine the reach and exposure that’s just sitting there for the taking. Not even the Superbowl has that kinda reach, and they charge an absolute fortune for ads.
A lot of people think Instagram is just for teens and selfies, but those people are missing out big time. Instagram gives you the opportunity to really showcase your branding and interact with new audiences. The opportunity for exposure is incredible, and it’s an absolute must for brands.
YouTube is kinda a mix between a search engine and social media, which means it’s perfect for getting your name out there!
